Just this past weekend we had the ever popular St Pats 5 and 10 Km running race.  This is a race that I look forward to every year as it is typically the first field test that I have my athletes and myself compete in.  It is a great way to see how our training is going and if we need to make any adjustments.

A running race at this time of year can be very useful in terms of motivation as well.  It sort of scares you into training just a bit longer and harder and the results can also serve as motivation.  There have been years when I did an early race and the poor result really lit a fire in me to train better.  We all sometimes slack off in the cold dark winter days…right?  🙂  On the other hand a great early season result can motivate you to keep training and it brings a smile to your face knowing that you are on the right track.

I was very pleased with the results from the weekend.  We had quite a few PB’s set and some fires internally set in others.  For me this was my first true test since breaking my arm and I was very pleased with my result.  My internal motivation fire continues to burn and I look forward to seeing you at the next event.  For many that is the Icebreaker 10Km and then off to California for the Wildflower Training camp.  I am super excited and keen to see how this season will play off for my athletes and myself.

Sign up for a local race today!  There are so many benefits to racing early season.
